Win The Purge Prize Pack, and Murder Your Neighbors In Style

ThePurge Blog App

If, on one night every year, you could commit any crime without facing consequences, what would you do?

Well, for starters, I’d probably hunt down whoever made the brilliant decision to make it so damn difficult to include outside widgets on this particular web host. See those numbers in the image above? They should be moving, but we’ll get to that. Other than that, I’d probably keep it simple – rob a White Castle and punch every bastard teenager in my neighborhood. Apparently, this is too tame for most people, who opt to go straight for the killing, as we will see in The Purge, opening in theaters June 7th.

In an America wracked with crime and overcrowded prisons, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period in which any and all criminal activity–including murder–becomes legal. The police can’t be called. Hospitals suspend help. It’s twelve hours when the citizenry regulates itself without thought of punishment. On this particular night in 2022, plagued by violence and an epidemic of crime, one family wrestles with the decision of who they will become when a stranger comes knocking.

When an intruder breaks into James Sandin’s (Ethan Hawke) gated community during the yearly lockdown, he begins a sequence of events that threatens to tear his family apart. Now, it is up to James, his wife, Mary (Lena Headey), and their kids to make it through the night without turning into the monsters from whom they hide.

Seems simple enough, right? Well, if this sounds like your bag then maybe you’ll want to win a prize pack of The Purge goods, including a mask and t-shirt you can wear while you loot, rob and murder your way through the night. As you can see from the picture below, the mask won’t be much use to conceal your identity, but hey, you can always gouge someone’s eyes out with the stick, right? Right. I have one such prize pack to giveaway, and all you have to do to get your murderous mitts on it, is live in the US and email with the subject “I’ve got the urge to Purge.” One winner will be chosen randomly this Friday, June 7th to coincide with the opening of the film.

Other ways to get extra entries will be announced over the next few days via our twitter feed, which you can follow @basementscreams. You can also click the image at the top (you know, the one that’s perfectly still) to take the Purge quiz, check out the trailer and have all kinds criminal fun.

Win A Limited Edition Zombie Shirt From RIPT Apparel

RIPT Apparel is a t-shirt website that sells limited edition shirts from a variety of artists and designers, and when I say limited edition I mean VERY limited. Every day they post a new design on their site and it is available for a mere twenty-four hours before it is retired (or “sent to the graveyard” as they say on the site!) They have done a variety of designs and have done some very cool horror themed stuff in the past. They recently had a design featuring Shaggy from Scooby Doo trapped in a Jigsaw style trap, Scooby snack just out of reach. Fun stuff. Another great thing about these shirts is the price. Most t-shirt companies charge anywhere from twenty to thirty dollars each, or more. RIPT has a nice and tidy $10 price tag attached to all of their shirts. So you get a kick ass limited edition design for a great price.

This Sunday, on Halloween they will be releasing the above zombie design to the public, and we have your opportunity to save yourself a couple bucks and win one for free! All you have to do to enter for your chance to win is leave a comment below with your name and the name of your all time favorite zombie flick. That’s it!The winner will be chosen at random very early Sunday morning and will receive a coupon code via email to use that day on the RIPT Apparel site for their free zombie shirt. Just remember, the shirt is only available until midnight Sunday night, so you HAVE to claim your prize that day or it’s gone forever. Easy enough? I thought so. So leave your comment and good luck!

NOTE – Contest is open to US residents only! Sorry!

Win British Serial Killer Film Tony On DVD

A few weeks back I reviewed Tony, a British serial killer film from director Gerard Johnson. It’s the story of  Tony, an unemployed, socially inept recluse who has a love for old action films and a longing for companionship. It’s a creepy little flick and one of my personal favorites so far this year. So now we have a copy on DVD to give away to one lucky reader, provided by the folks at Revolver Entertainment! As I said, Tony loves nothing more than to curl up on the couch in his council estate flat and watch an old action flick on VHS. All you have to do to enter the contest is leave a comment telling what old action flick you would want to watch if you found yourself as Tony’s guest. Easy as that! The winner will be chosen at random on April 24th and the contest is only open to residents of the U.S. (sorry, postage is expensive!)

Win Art At The Day After!

Chris over at The Day After blog has started a series of monthly contests to win prints of his artwork. What he’s doing is really cool and different though, because every month he’s going to pick a different member of the Horror Blogger Alliance and ask a question about a post on their blog. It’s a pretty cool way of exposing people to blogs they may not know of, and a different take on the way most people run their contests. I’m totally honored and excited that Chris chose Basement Screams as the first blog in this series. It’s a question about my review of Satan’s Wife, so head over to The Day After, get the info, enter the contest and win yourself some fantastic art!
