Yes folks, it’s that time of year again. The season of the witch is upon us and if you’re a horror fan there’s a good chance at some point this month you’ll be sitting down with a bowl of candy corn and a six-pack of something delish (or at the very least cheap) and watching the granddaddy of modern slashers, John Carpenter’s Halloween. For many it’s THE go-to flick for the season, and rightfully so. It’s personally my favorite film (horror or otherwise) of all time, and I look forward to my annual viewing of it and a few of its sequels. Which brings me to the point of this. I want to know what your favorite entry in the franchise is, besides the original. Maybe you’re a first-night purist and love Halloween II. Perhaps you like to shake it up a bit and dig Season Of The Witch. Or maybe the Thorn curse bent middle entries tickle your fancy. Hell, maybe you’re a complete fucking moron and really like H20 or Resurrection. I’m not here to judge (much), I just want to know. So take a second and vote in the poll below and let us know which Haddonfield (or Santa Mira) horror is top of your list. I even threw in the Rob Zombie remakes for fun (or something).
Alright, boils and ghouls, the time has finally arrived to don your best attire and go out and beg for some sweets! I have to apologise for the lack of posts lately, between real world obligations and preparing for Halloween there just hasn’t been much time. So this is just a quick hello to wish you all a happy holiday, and remember , whether you’re out trick or treating, enjoying a pumpkin ale or twelve, or heading back home to stalk and kill your long-lost sister or niece, please be safe… and don’t blow out the candles!
I’ll leave you with a scene from one of my favorites to watch this time a year, and a dance that’s primed to sweep the nation!
Bonfires burning bright, pumpkin faces in the night, I remember Halloween…
…To write a film review, that is. Check it out, Ryne over at The Moon Is A Dead World put up a post earlier this month looking for fifteen horror bloggers or writers to assist him in his Halloween festivities on the blog by contributing a review. He listed fifteen films to choose from and as of earlier today there were still four unclaimed titles. The films that are still up for grabs to review are Blood of Dracula’s Castle, Akira, Dementia 13 and the steaming pile of shit Captivity. So, if you’re a horror blogger, writer or opinionated jerk that wants to let the world know what you think about one of the above mentioned films, head over to The Moon, get in touch with Ryne and be a part of The Halloween Fifteen! I’ll be taking part myself with a review of the most under-rated sequel in horror, Halloween 3 – Season of the Witch!
Happy Halloween, everyone. I just wanted to do a quick post and wish everyone a safe Samhain and congratulate the winner of our zombie shirt contest. Trisha Butrum will be cozy watching Night Of The Living Dead in a limited edition shirt from RIPT Apparel! Congrats to her and for the rest of you, it’s not too late to get your mitts on one of these limited edition bad boys. They are available for ten dollars until midnight tonight from the RIPT website so before you head out begging for sweets go snatch one up for yourself! And don’t forget to make it in in time to check out the premier of The Walking Dead on AMC tonight! Happy haunting!
RIPT Apparel is a t-shirt website that sells limited edition shirts from a variety of artists and designers, and when I say limited edition I mean VERY limited. Every day they post a new design on their site and it is available for a mere twenty-four hours before it is retired (or “sent to the graveyard” as they say on the site!) They have done a variety of designs and have done some very cool horror themed stuff in the past. They recently had a design featuring Shaggy from Scooby Doo trapped in a Jigsaw style trap, Scooby snack just out of reach. Fun stuff. Another great thing about these shirts is the price. Most t-shirt companies charge anywhere from twenty to thirty dollars each, or more. RIPT has a nice and tidy $10 price tag attached to all of their shirts. So you get a kick ass limited edition design for a great price.
This Sunday, on Halloween they will be releasing the above zombie design to the public, and we have your opportunity to save yourself a couple bucks and win one for free! All you have to do to enter for your chance to win is leave a comment below with your name and the name of your all time favorite zombie flick. That’s it!The winner will be chosen at random very early Sunday morning and will receive a coupon code via email to use that day on the RIPT Apparel site for their free zombie shirt. Just remember, the shirt is only available until midnight Sunday night, so you HAVE to claim your prize that day or it’s gone forever. Easy enough? I thought so. So leave your comment and good luck!
NOTE – Contest is open to US residents only! Sorry!
I am by no means a Jack-O-Lantern professional, but here’s the Murphy family pumpkin 2009. The fangs are in honor of Sean being a vampire this year (not sure why the fangs are bucktooth, but that’s okay).
and what’s a horror blog without some guts…
my son the evil clown…
and the sweet Excorcist beer cozy that my buddy Clint made me…
One more day ’til Halloween, Halloween, Halloween. One more day ’til Halloween, Silver Shamrock!
